My Imperfect Life
I am an imperfect human being. The people I love are imperfect. My family is imperfect. I personally strive for imperfection as a person. It's cooler to be imperfect, and I am proud of what makes me me.
That said, in business, you strive to be perfect. It’s not that hard to be perfect in business, and it’s forgiving if you fall a little short. These days you must strive to be perfect. There is too much competition.
Amazon is perfect. But you don’t have to be that big to be perfect. Some little ways you can be perfect are...
The way you answer your phone. You should always be ready to do some serious business.
Your website. It should be ready to rock and roll.
Your handshake. And your eye contact. They should resemble the missile lock in Top Gun.
Your clothes. Your posture. Your shoes. All should be close to perfect. The way you look is equal to the way you perform.
Investment bankers set that bar very high, they are ready 24/7/365, and they look the part. Your business should perform at the same level as companies who are based on safety. These companies live by posting the “zero incidents today" sign. They keep a running total and can go years without an incident. Your business should run the same and adopt a NO MISTAKE policy. Better yet, the only customer we want is a HIGHLY SATISFIED customer.
It’s not that hard to be perfect in business, but you have to want to be perfect. It’s perfectly OK to be imperfect the rest of the time.
