This Too Will Pass
I have always had a fear, since the dawn of the internet, that we would be subject to a large scale cyber virus.
No one, and I mean no one, could have predicted the coronavirus and its attack on all of humanity. Forget all the cancellations, postponements, and all that’s changed in our life today. We are living on a day by day basis. What’s next? We don’t know. We can only prepare and take precautions.
I started to think about all the things that could happen. And I keep revisiting this in my head: what if we really do come to a screeching halt? A suspension of the world. Movies have been depicting these narratives for decades. Aliens, plagues, natural disasters, other bizarre possibilities. People are stockpiling supplies from hand sanitizers to frozen foods. Preparing for the suspension; the period in which we are all confined or limited, being held prisoner to this virus.
One question I haven't heard or seen much is: Do you have a reserve of cash at home? What if, for a short period of time, we became a CASH ONLY society. Most people in our society conduct business online; e-commerce, apps, paying bills, banking, transferring money, etc.. What if that was suspended as we shut down? Do you have two weeks of cash at your fingertips? I think it may be a good idea, if you are able.
But don’t stop there. Have your vehicles gassed up to full. It’s not just about supplies; it’s about switching your brain to survival mode. It’s about thinking before you see the iceberg.
Here is what I do know: this too will pass. The key is the lessons we learn. Humanity is being tested. In the long term, I hope it makes us better humans, kinder people.
The vulnerability we are experiencing should always remind us who we need to be.
